Astronaut Artemis II reports that Microsoft Outlook is not working aboard the Orion spacecraft


An astronaut aboard NASA’s Orion spacecraft, currently in orbit for the Artemis II missioninformed ground controllers in Houston that Microsoft Outlook It was not working on your device. The exchange was broadcast live on NASA’s YouTube channel during space-to-ground communications.

Two versions of Outlook: a familiar Windows problem

The presence of two independent installations of Outlook on a single device is a situation that many windows users are familiar. Microsoft has maintained parallel versions of Outlook for years, offering Outlook (classic) and Outlook (new) on Windows systems. The company has repeatedly extended the deadline for retiring the classic version, most recently pushing the limit back to 2027.

The cause of the connectivity or application failure on Orion has not been revealed by NASA or Microsoft. The problem is not expected to affect the Artemis II mission, and remote tools available to ground teams allow software problems to be resolved in orbit without requiring crew intervention.

Microsoft has not commented on the report.
