With the second season of live action one piece New to Netflix, the team behind that hit series, Tomorrow Studios, has its next anime adaptation in mind. However, from Tomorrow Studios was also behind Netflix’s unloved live action bebop cowboy adaptationfans may feel some trepidation, because this upcoming live-action project It will also be based on a cult anime from the creator Shinichiro Watanabe: Samurai Champloo.
Fortunately, Tomorrow Studios’ Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements have clearly learned from the past and will apply those lessons to Samurai Champloo. As Variety reports, having one piece Creator Eiichiro Oda’s close involvement with the Netflix series has been enormously helpful, not only in helping shape the series, but also in reassuring fans that it has their all-important seal of approval.
That’s why it’s so crucial for Watanabe to participate in Samurai Champloo. He was not part of bebop cowboy and had almost the same reaction as many fans. In 2023, he did an interview where he didn’t mince words about it.
“For the new Netflix live-action adaptation, they sent me a video to review and check. It started with a scene in a casino, which made it very difficult for me to continue. I stopped there and only watched that opening scene,” he said. “It was clearly not bebop cowboy and at that moment I realized that if I wasn’t involved, it wouldn’t be bebop cowboy. I felt like maybe I should have done this. Although the value of the original anime is somehow much greater now.”
Variety says Watanabe would be attached to Samurai Champloo as a producer, and there seems to be no hard feelings afterwards bebop cowboy.
“We had dinner with (Watanabe) in Japan and said, if we go ahead Samurai Champloo“We really want you to be a part of the creativity,” Clements explained to the exchange. “We were delighted that he was willing to do that.”
So far there is no network connected, but Clements said there has been interest; you should assume that Netflix is on the list. Variety notes, “The adaptation will retain the core elements that fans love while updating the material for a contemporary television audience. Clements said that music will be central to the process; the anime’s original hip-hop-influenced score was a defining feature, and that the studio plans to bring in a major artist early to help establish the show’s sound.”
