Instagram arrives this weekend with an update that could help you avoid awkward looks in responses.
Interestingly, Instagram announced via a Threads post that is implementing an edit button for comments made on the platform (via The edge). The thread goes on to state that users can edit their Instagram comments within 15 minutes of posting. The Verge chimes in and provides a screenshot of this feature. After you post your response, users will see an “Edit” option below your comment.
This will resurface your keyboard, as well as what you’ve typed, with a visible “edit comment” banner above the text field. All you need to do next is hit the check mark, your edited comment will appear and no one will notice. The publication spoke with Meta spokesperson Nicole Rechtszaid about the new edit button. Rechtszaid informed them that comments you edited will have a gray “Edited” label next to the content.

Don’t make a mistake (since you can edit it)

This is one of those features that may catch your attention, but interestingly it is arriving two years later DMs received the same treatment. Editing her direct messages was a highlight in a “fun” update Meta announced for Instagram. After sending a message, users can long-press their text and tap “Edit.” The platform has kept the functionality more or less the same. Users have 15 minutes to edit a DM after sending it, just like they do with comments on social media posts.
More recently, there have been rumors that Instagram might change its home page. the platform could switch to a reel-focused mindsetmoving the main scrollable feed of text/image posts to the side. instagram started a test for this very thing At the end of last year, as its director, Adam Mosseri, announced to users in India. According to Mosseri, Reels and DMs drive the most engagement on Instagram, so he’s trying to push them as much as he can.
Android Central’s opinion
Can you imagine if we all had to use typewriters again? The anxiety levels from writing anything would be crazy. Luckily, we don’t have to worry about that (right?), as Instagram gives us a break with editable comments. It’s a nice addition and something that has spread to many applications over the years. It’s a small quality of life update that gained some positive traction on Threads following the announcement.
