Google Duo is no more and the company has completed its migration to Google Meet as its only video calling service.
While the Google Duo brand disappeared in 2022, legacy features remained within the Meet app. This deprecation was originally established for September 2025but was then delayed until January 2026. It has been slowly implemented since then and is now complete.
The rather prominent “Meet calling will replace Legacy (Duo) calling” card that couldn’t be dismissed at the top of the Meet homepage has disappeared in recent weeks. Over the past few days, we’ve seen legacy call history, along with the corresponding “Calls (legacy)” settings menu, disappear on all of our devices.
Inherited functions like Knock Knock (which was a signature feature at launch that shared incoming video streams), Family, and Mirror mode are also gone. Besides:
New features available include live captions, screen sharing, chat during calls, stackable effects, and cloud encryption. On the privacy front, Google Meet calls “by default being accessible to your email.” To change, go to Settings > General and enable “Only contacts can call me,” which corresponds to contacts.google.com.
Meanwhile, Google notes that “incoming group calling is supported on Nest displays, but outgoing group calling is not supported on Nest speakers or displays.”
