Google Photos is adding a new video playback speed control to your Android app, allowing users to adjust playback between 0.5x and 2x speed directly within the app. The feature is gradually rolling out to Android users, although there has been no announcement about an iOS version.
The speed control appears within the video player interface during playback. Google has not specified whether the control is available via a dedicated button or a toggle menu.
Google Photos Video Speed Options and Android Implementation
According to the Google Photos support page, the speed options available range from 0.5x for slower playback 2x for faster viewing. Google has not confirmed whether intermediate speeds like 1.25x or 1.5x are supported, or whether speed control works with all video formats stored in Google Photos.
The feature is currently only available on Android, with no confirmed timeline for an iOS release from Google. Like most Google app updates, the rollout to Android is happening gradually, so some users may not see the option immediately, even after it launches in their region.
Google Photos has not announced any changes to its video editing tools along with this update.
