The world of E-Ink readers gets another addition with an announcement from Boox bringing a Gen 2 to a Go tablet model.
This morning (March 17), Boox announced in a press release that it has launched the Go 10.3 (Gen 2) tablet reader. Right from the start, Boox claims that this E-Ink tablet offers two variations: Lumi and Standard. The former offers a front-light experience, while the latter forgoes that and offers a true ink-on-the-surface experience. Boox adds that its Standard Go 10.3 (Gen 2) boasts “exceptional clarity in direct sunlight.” However, the Lumi version “incorporates two-tone adjustable headlights,” such as cool daylight tones and warm amber tones.

The inclusion of choice here for Go 10.3 is the highlight for me. Boox has some pretty attractive e-ink readers, to the point that a person like me who never owned one would consider it. Typically you would expect the Standard experience, a tablet with ink on the surface. With backlighting, suddenly your uses go up a notch, outside of the conventional “I need some external light source.”
Another major highlight of the Go 10.3 (Gen 2) is that Boox has reduced its thickness to 4.6mm for the standard version (4.8mm Lumi). Despite this, Boox says users will find a decent 3,700mAh battery with battery life estimates of “weeks on a single charge”, although this doesn’t take connectivity (Wi-Fi or Bluetooth) into account.

The reading is good, but the writing blends quite well. Boox announces that both tablet variations come with an InkSense Plus stylus compatible with 4096 levels of pressure sensitivity and tilt recognition. The post adds that users will have some writing tools to use, such as Lasso, Insert, Outlines, and Tags.
Boox highlights its Go 10.3’s position as a device for “digital nomads.” He claims that with its solar clarity and focused tools, the tablet could prove useful for users looking to move away from traditional screens. The reader screen is designed to help with screen fatigue due to its simulation of normal ink on a surface. Internally, users will have Android 15 and access to the Google Play Store to help them complete their reading or work tasks.
Android Central’s opinion
It’s nothing new for a Boox tablet to be compatible with the Google Play Store; However, it is still worth talking about positively. Being able to grab one of these and still find the useful reading, writing, and productivity tools you would have on your phone is a huge plus. Additionally, Boox’s support for a wide range of digital file formats focuses on that “digital nomad” mantra.
Boox claims to have updated this tablet with an Octa-core processor, which should help with multitasking and app performance. The Lumi and Standard models of the Go 10.3 (Gen 2) feature 64GB of storage and support “26 digital file formats.” Additionally, the tablets come with the NeoReader app built-in, for “customizable reading and annotation capabilities for digital books.”
US consumers can find the Boox Go 10.3 (Gen 2) available for $449 (Lumi) and $429 (Standard).
