Last year, Microsoft announced that it planned to bring back the ability to view your calendar through the calendar flyout in the taskbar, a capability that was part of Windows 10 but was removed when Windows 11 debuted. The company said the feature would debut in preview in December 2025, but that month passed with no sign of the feature.
Since then, we have been kept in the dark. Microsoft quietly updated the original announcement to remove mention The feature is expected to enter preview in December 2025, meaning we had no idea when the feature is expected to arrive or if the company had quietly canceled plans to ship it.
When the feature was first announced, it was quickly discovered that it was being built using WebView instead of the native Windows UI, which would be faster and more enjoyable to use. That sparked some reaction online.and I wonder if that has influenced its apparent delay. “We are focused on delivering a high-quality, reliable feature at the time of public preview or general availability” the spokesperson said.
Microsoft also confirmed that the feature would go into preview with Windows Insiders in the “coming months,” which is a far cry from the December 2025 date it originally gave. This likely means we’re at least a few weeks away from it officially going into preview, and even further away from it being available to everyone.
Many people who use Windows for work have wanted this feature to return since Windows 11 is on the market. It’s an incredibly useful addition, allowing you to see what meetings or events are coming up next without having to open your email or calendar app. Without it, users have been forced to keep an app open to manage upcoming events.
The new agenda view in Windows 11 is part of Microsoft’s big plan to address the “pain points” in Windows 11, with a concerted effort to fix the operating system and make it ideal for people who use the platform to work, develop, and play. Productivity features are part of that effort and it’s good to see things like agenda view returning.
It’s unfortunate that the agenda view was delayed at the last minute, but the good news is that it’s still coming. It’s clear to me that the delay is to ensure the feature meets a high-quality standard, and that’s a good reassuring sign that things are changing for the better internally at Microsoft.
