Nvidia releases its fix for PC game “compile shader” wait times



PC gamers who are tired of waiting for their games to “compile shaders” for some load times may want to dig deeper into the latest beta version of the Nvidia app. In addition to the new DLSS 4.5 Multi Frame Generation features, the app includes the beta implementation of a feature that allows your machine to automatically compile new shaders while idle.

Nvidia’s new Auto Shader Compilation system promises to “reduce game runtime compilation frequency after driver updates” for users running Nvidia GeForce Game Ready Driver 595.97 WHQL or later. When the feature is active and your machine is idle, the app will automatically start rebuilding the DirectX drivers for your games so they are ready to go the next time they are launched.

While the feature is disabled by default when the Nvidia app is first downloaded, users can activate it by going to the Graphics > Global Settings > Shader Cache tab. There, they can reserve disk space for precompiled shaders and decide how much system resources the build process should use. Application users can also manually force the shader to recompile through the application instead of waiting for the machine to go idle.
