The best way to celebrate Apple 50 is to do something wonderful

This story is part of the 9to5mac series celebrating Apple’s 50th anniversary.

Many people will find themselves thinking about a company today. That’s great, I’m one of them, but the best way to celebrate Apple and its contributions to society is to do something wonderful yourself. After all, that’s what Steve Jobs believed.

To open the iPhone X event in 2017, the company used a recording of Steve talking about how doing something wonderful was a way of expressing your gratitude to the rest of humanity. A few years ago, the Steve Jobs Archive even created a book noble do something wonderful inspire people to do their best work.

“There are many ways to be as a person. And some people express their deep appreciation in different ways. But one of the ways I think people express their appreciation to the rest of humanity is to do something wonderful and publish it.

And you never meet people. You never shake their hand. You never hear their story or tell yours. But somehow, in the act of doing something with a lot of care and love, something is transmitted there. And it is a way of expressing our deep gratitude to the rest of our species. That is why we must be true to who we are and remember what is really important to us.”

Arguably Apple’s greatest contributions have been to the arts. They may specialize in making products, but what really matters is what those products enable. Whether it’s music, television, illustration, publishing, you name it, Apple has left its mark. Better yet, Apple has allowed artists from around the world to make their own mark in these fields.

So write a song, draw a drawing, make a movie, create an app, compose a poem, start that novel, whatever your creative outlet is, use it today. There is something so special about creating something new and that has always been the goal of Apple devices: to allow anyone to express themselves through art with technology.
