Pop culture is increasingly littered with projects that were once beloved and then became problematic and controversial thanks to something (or someone) going wrong behind the scenes. Fans must then decide if they want to continue paying attention or tune out. good omensThe acclaimed Prime Video series starring David Tennant and Michael Sheen as a hapless demon and angel causing trouble on Earth is just the latest example.
To complicate things even more, good omens It occupies a bit of a gray area. Neil Gaimanwhich had been very practical in seasons one and two, stepped back from the show based on the book he co-wrote with the late Terry Pratchett after sexual abuse allegations (which Gaiman has denied it) came to light. The third season was from then on. remodeled in 90 minutes special episode rather than a full six-episode season, with no direct involvement from Gaiman beyond some initial script, as reported Deadline At the moment.
But good omens is still closely associated with the disgraced author. He may no longer be showrunner or producer, and someone else may have stepped in to handle the writing, but the credits will certainly remind us that the show is based on his novel with Pratchett.
With the final chapter of good omens Arriving soon, Prime Video has started teasing its return. In February we learned May 13 release dateand today a new key piece of art featuring the “ineffable husbands” and their feathered wings was released on social media. However, its wording may seem a little confusing at first glance.

“Third season”? “New season”? If Prime Video had decided that with Gaiman gone, maybe they could find a way to make a full final series of good omens after all?
No. Nothing has changed. Prime Video confirmed to io9 that the previous reports stand, and good omens The third season is still a single 90-minute episode.
Considering Sheen said in June 2025. that wasn’t sure if the special would ever be released (“I really don’t know what’s going to happen with it… Tennant and I) are relieved to have finished the story, but that’s within this really difficult, complicated, disturbing context. I hope people can see it, but that’s largely out of our hands”), maybe we should be glad that it’s finally being offered to the public.
Of course, it remains to be seen whether people will actually want to see it or not. Can you put the controversy aside and tune in to see what happens with Crowley and Aziraphale’s cosmic romance? Or is the lingering Gaiman factor too off-putting?
If it’s the first, good omens The “third season” arrives on May 13.
