Supreme+ Subscribers in the US can expect to boldly go where no one has gone before, with Captain Pike and the crew of the Starship Enterprise in the fourth season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds this Thursday. My recommendations for the week come from a handful of new additions to P+ for July, and include my top pick: one of the scariest J-horror remakes I’ve ever seen and one I return to again and again when I can. Plus, there’s a classic gangster hunt, a cult burger joint and a globe-trotting race against the undead.

The untouchables
Eliot Ness and his team face Capone’s Chicago
Real-life mobster and smuggler Al Capone has been the subject of many iconic Hollywood films and television series dating back to the 1950s – two different ones. capone movies (1975 and 2020) and HBO Boardwalk Empire (2010) among them. But by far the most recognizable is the one from 1987. The untouchablesBrian De Palma’s epic that earned Sean Connery his only Oscar.
Based on the 1957 memoirs of Bureau of Prohibition special agent Eliot Ness, The untouchables follows Ness (Kevin Costner) and his team, including cop Jimmy Malone (Connery), sniper George Stone (Andy Garcia), and accountant Oscar Wallace (Charles Martin Smith), as they descend into 1930s Chicago to take down Capone (Robert De Niro). It’s a defining gangster movie of the ’80s that still holds up today with a score of 83% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes.

In Good burgerIn the film, Mitchell’s wonderfully positive and naïve Ed translates well to the big screen, joined by Thompson’s Dexter Reed, a teenager who gets a job at the titular burger joint to pay for repairs to his teacher’s (Sinbad) car after crashing into it. The entire movie is ridiculously fun hijinks and pranks, as the two partners team up to stop mega burger chain Mondo Burger from stealing Ed’s delicious secret sauce recipe and putting them out of business. Good Burger and its 2023 sequel, Good burger 2both are available on Paramount+.

World War Z
Brad Pitt in a very fast zombie apocalypse
more traditional “zombie” movies or TV shows feature lumbering, brain-hungry, easy-to-kill minions who look more like your sleepwalking grandmother than a real threat. In the amazing year 2013 World War Z (the highest-grossing zombie movie of all time, don’t you know?), however, a couple of key things break the mold, giving it a scarier spin.
First, forget about the droolers and prepare for hordes of spastic, speedy infected who will do anything, including stacking on top of each other to form wall-climbing human chains, to reach their victims. Furthermore, this outbreak is not limited to one city or small town; It is global, it involves geopolitics and all the military power on the planet unites to prevent the end of the world as we know it. But what it does have is a hero and an emotional core. Brad Pitt plays Gerry Lane, a retired UN investigator who, with the personal goal of returning to his lovely wife (The murder(the excellent Mireille Enos) and the children, they might also be the only one who can stop him.

Immediately after, the phone rings and the creepy voice on the other end of the line says that your countdown has begun. With the help of her ex, Noah (virgin river(Martin Henderson), Rachel races against the clock to uncover the haunting story of the curse and also save her son, who also saw the tape. Two sequels followed: the one in 2005. ring two (also on Paramount+) and 2017 Rings.
