- One UI 8.5 tested a Device Care feature to handle apps with “excessive ads” and now that feature is coming to Galaxy users.
- The feature offers “basic” and “smart” blocking options, where the latter will “analyze” your app alerts to see if they are ads before suspending them.
- One UI 8.5 has been spotted rolling out in the US today (May 11).
Samsung’s Device Care is releasing an update, alongside its main OS patch, that finally introduces an addition we saw rumored months ago.
Ahead of the weekend, insider Kailash reported that Samsung had started rolling out an update for Device Care (via SammyGuru). According to their post, users should soon encounter version 13.8.80.7, which brings an old rumored “Block apps with excessive ads” feature. This feature was rumored during Samsung’s presentation. A user interface 8.5 tests. There were some aspects of this that remained in doubt; however, the tipster’s screenshots now show us in full.
Samsung’s description says: “Apps that send frequent advertising alerts will be put into deep sleep to prevent them from disturbing you.” Basically, deep sleep in this scenario means “locked.” Well, if you’re interested, Device Care’s “Basic Block” will identify apps that send you frequent ads and silence them when it detects them.
What finally came to light in this stable update is the “Smart Lock” feature. This seems to go a step further, as Samsung claims that this option will “analyze” your alerts and “determine if they are ads.” If the software thinks so, they will be blocked, especially if they are sent frequently. Samsung asks for grace, because its software could do things wrong.

Samsung’s excessive ad blocker it was rumored All the way in early December. While its One UI 8.5 test code suggested this was in the works, reports were still unsure of its uses in everyday life. Specifically, whether or not this feature could be used “system-wide.” With the way Intelligent Blocker is described, it seems like we can expect Samsung’s software (perhaps backed by AI) to cover every app you have.
The good thing here is that this feature was spotted during testing of One UI 8.5 and is also rolling out officially. along with the main operating system. After months of testing, Samsung is finally happy with its One UI 8.5 update for other phones, like the Galaxy S25 series. The update is now rolling out in the US, bringing AI call detection and editing tools. Users will also find some minor UI tweaks in certain areas of the software.
Android Central’s opinion
We are exposed to advertisements everywhere. Sometimes it seems like they have no end. This feature is welcome. Of course, there’s no need for Samsung’s software to scan or “analyze” your alerts to see if they’re an ad. I’m sure the basic one will come in handy. I think it will be particularly useful for people who don’t feel like diving into each app’s notification settings individually. That seems tedious. This is not so.
