In an interview with The gambling businessStrauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two, covered a wide range of topics, including AIRoblox, RAM shortage and more.
But they also asked him about The new CEO of Xbox, Asha Sharmawho will take over the role following the retirement of Phil Spencer after a long tenure at Microsoft.
Zelnick had some encouraging words for Xbox’s new leader, so here’s what he had to say.
Article continues below.
In the interviewChristopher Dring asks Zelnick what he thinks about Asha Sharma and points out that “She’s new to the industry. She’s not a gamer, and that sparked a conversation about whether those things are important for the role.”
Zelnick responds with clear encouragement for the new Xbox leader:
Well, first of all, I don’t think the newly appointed head of Xbox needs any advice from me. So let’s start there… This highly successful executive who has done very well without even meeting me. I’m going to bet that he will continue to do great.
Take-Two CEO: Strauss Zelnick
It may be refreshing for some to see such a sincere and positive view of the situation, avoiding any drama, as we all know very well, the gaming side of the internet exploded with concern that Sharma was not a gamer, and many (non-Xbox fans, I might add) are quite unpleasant online.
Zelnick continues to expand slightly, veering toward his broader view of leadership:
“Having said all that, look, our recipe for success here is to be the most creative, to be the most innovative, to be the most efficient, and you’re going to want to study the dynamics of the business… the person you mentioned has actually successfully operated a lot of different businesses… I can’t imagine that she wasn’t looking at the underlying dynamics of the business and then you know, leaning into those, but at the end of the day what drives success in our business is creating the best entertainment.“.
Well, that’s all that’s been said for now and like I said, it’s good that it’s such a candid take and I’m sure Sharma will appreciate the endorsement from the CEO of Take Two.
I would say it’s too early to judge Asha Sharma in her role at Xbox. However, your comments so far have been reassuring and have given me some cautious optimism.
With that said, I give it to you.
So let’s listen to it. What do you think of Zelnick’s comments about Asha Sharma? Are they too sincere or would you have preferred something a little juicier?
