New software can often present various problems. Android 17 is no exception, with Pixel users reporting connectivity issues.
Shortly after the release of Android 17, users of the Google Pixel subreddit reported issues connecting to 5G on several Pixel phones (via Android Authority). The original poster says they downloaded Android 17 on their Pixel 9 Pro and “since the update, I’m only on LTE.” The user claims that he has always managed to maintain a constant 5G connection on his phone. This update has changed things, and not for the better.
Android Central’s opinion
There have been pixels in the past that suffer from connectivity issues. Typically, in our reports, this occurs after monthly security patches. I have seen users who are now afraid of Android 17 and claim that they will wait for a proper fix. Not a bad idea, especially if you rely on those cellular connections. Even though users discover a solution on their own, hopefully Google is looking into this to prevent users from going out of their way.
Others said the same and reported this issue on Pixel 10 Pro, 8a, and 6a. LTE is the only phone data connectivity that users can manage; However, the problems go beyond connectivity. A user report says: “After the update, my esim disappeared and did not connect to any mobile network.” One post says a user lost 5G and 4G connectivity, forcing their phone to rely on its satellite network.
A Google support member responded to the thread and offered a document which could help users solve their 5G connectivity problems. However, the original poster says they found relief through a fellow user’s response. The user says he restored his 5G by putting his Pixel 9 Pro into repair mode and rebooting.
A bumpy start
Android 17 It launched on Tuesday and Google was quick to begin rolling it out to eligible devices. Basically, it was your pixels that were first on the list. While the latest operating system offers a selection of new features and even more robust security/threat detection capabilities, it hasn’t been perfect. Recently, more Pixel users have reported missing widgets after downloading Android 17.
Users said their widgets have disappeared and it is not clear how to get them back. This problem is not widespread, at least not in these early reports. What’s more, it seems limited to phones with a work profile set up. Luckily, Google has been quick with this problem. The company responded to the reports and stated that it is working on a fix for a future patch.
Joining the launch of Android 17 was a June Pixel Drop. Among the most notable were “Bubbles” and the “Bubble Bar”. The latter is important for Pixel Folds; However, the Bubbles feature is generally about multitasking between apps in a floating menu on your device. Emergency detection features are also updated for sharing on Pixel Watches.
