Android 17 issues continue as Pixel users lose 5G connectivity

What you need to know

  • Pixel users on the Google Pixel subreddit are reporting 5G connectivity issues shortly after downloading Android 17.
  • Users claim that their device will no longer have 5G as it relies on LTE; However, some have found relief by putting their phone into repair mode and restarting it.
  • Other Android 17 issues affecting Pixels include missing home screen widgets, but Google says it’s working on a fix.

New software can often present various problems. Android 17 is no exception, with Pixel users reporting connectivity issues.

Shortly after the release of Android 17, users of the Google Pixel subreddit reported issues connecting to 5G on several Pixel phones (via Android Authority). The original poster says they downloaded Android 17 on their Pixel 9 Pro and “since the update, I’m only on LTE.” The user claims that he has always managed to maintain a constant 5G connection on his phone. This update has changed things, and not for the better.

Android Central’s opinion

There have been pixels in the past that suffer from connectivity issues. Typically, in our reports, this occurs after monthly security patches. I have seen users who are now afraid of Android 17 and claim that they will wait for a proper fix. Not a bad idea, especially if you rely on those cellular connections. Even though users discover a solution on their own, hopefully Google is looking into this to prevent users from going out of their way.
