The Linux community is full of creativity in distributions. Some distributions are created to solve a specific problem, while others are created for fun. In 2009, the world witnessed the majesty of Hannah Montana Linux and although it was intended to be a joke, it was surprisingly functional. we even I tried in 2025.although getting it up and running after all those years was complicated.
If you missed it and long for a Linux distribution that is very, very Rosa, then I have great news for you. Someone has made a modern version of Hannah Montana Linux and has a modern version of KDE Plasma under the hood.

And believe me, it’s very pink.
How he saw it LinuxiacSomeone has decided that this day, right now, is the perfect time to launch their own version of a distro that came out 17 years ago. That person is Noah Cagle, who uploaded everything you need to execute. Hannah Montana Linux v.26 on GitLab. If you’d rather not run Hannah Montana Linux on your daily driver PC for some strange reason, you can see how it was done and the end result at Cagle’s YouTube video.
So what is it like? Well, imagine KDE Plasma, except everything is pink and Hannah Montana is constantly watching you from the desktop background. Aside from that, its KDE Plasma 6 base should make it a fully usable distro for modern use, so maybe “I use Hannah Montana Linux, by the way” will become a reality.
If you’re thinking about running Hannah Montana Linux on 2009 hardware as originally intended, it may not work as well:
The main project uses KDE Plasma 6 and SDDM. Plasma 6 may be slow on older machines. Generally, you need around 8GB of RAM to run Plasma 6 comfortably. However, HML26 Small is a fork of this project that uses LXQt and lightdm instead. LXQt can comfortably run with just 2GB of RAM while still offering a fully capable desktop experience. It’s certainly not as pretty as Plasma 6, but it’s a hell of a lot more efficient.
