President Donald Trump posted dozens of AI images on his Truth Social account on Sunday. The images included references to the QAnon conspiracy theory, threats to bomb oil infrastructure in Iran and suggestions that he will illegally try to remain in office after his term ends in January 2029.
Republicans are leaning toward the downfall of AI, both nationally and at the state level, in the run-up to the November elections. But will this unhinged post by Trump and his allies rally the base to help the party exceed expectations? Or will it scare regular people enough to energize Democrats and lead to massive liberal turnout in the midterms?
If you look at the images Trump posted on Sunday, it’s hard to imagine the audience for this ugly trash. You have this AI image below, which shows Trump with President John F. Kennedy. Obviously, it looks like shit, as both men are rendered with that creepy early AI glow that makes neither of them look photorealistic.
Whoever originally generated the image, it wasn’t made with a top-notch AI image generator like Google’s Nano Banana, which creates much more realistic images.
Even despite the image’s flaws, at least it didn’t contain threats of violence, as is often the case these days.
Other images posted by Trump on Sunday show him personally directing US Navy ships and take control of the Iranian oil tankers while cartoonishly evil Iranians in white robes jump after him. The words “Now it’s our tanker!” appear, making clear what the objective of Trump’s war in Iran is.
Another AI image shows the strategically important Kharg Island in Iran being torn apart by US fighter jets. But if you look at the image for more than five seconds, you can see how horrible everything looks. An airplane appears to have two noses. Other planes look like alien spaceships.
Trump also posted several images containing text that read “Trump 2028.” The president is not allowed to run in 2028, and his supporters often claim he is only joking when talking about serving a third term. But this is the man who already tried to stay in power through a self-coup on January 6, 2021. It is within the realm of possibility that he will try to stay in office illegally.
It’s not just the president’s personal accounts that post all this AI crap. The official White House account published a parody of Rick and Morty. Trump and his vice president, JD Vance, are seen running toward the White House before waving to a crowd. Border czar Tom Homan arrests an alien (presumably a reference to undocumented immigrants), and Chuck Schumer removes his mask to reveal himself as some kind of alien robot creature.

What is the lesson of all this? Apparently, nothing beyond an idiotic show. The American people are supposed to watch these videos, realize they are pop culture references of some kind, and believe that Trump is cool by association. It’s the rough equivalent of jingling keys in front of a dog.

The message could be that you should eat “real food,” it’s hard to say, but Kennedy is clearly the star of any message she posts. It’s a strange branding exercise with the anti-vaccine activist at the center. We’re supposed to believe that Kennedy is great and any message beyond that is secondary.
Senate Republicans also released an AI video on Saturday showing former Senate hopeful Graham Platner becoming Troy Jackson. Platner dropped out of the US Senate race in Maine after sexual assault allegations were made against him (allegations he denied), and Jackson replaced him as the Democratic candidate to face Republican Susan Collins.

Traditional political wisdom tells us that November should be a landslide victory for Democrats. Midterm elections rarely go well for the party in power, and Republicans currently control all three branches of government. What has the Republican Party accomplished since Trump returned to office in January 2025?
They have gutted the federal government with DOGE, illegally destroying USAID and purging some 300,000 federal employees. They have kicked more than 4 million people on food stamps, including at least a million children. They have started a war on Iran that they lost strategically after the first shots were fired, disrupting shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and raising gas prices for the entire world.
The result has been disastrous for the image of Republicans in this country. The latest surveys of CBS News indicates that 63% of Americans believe the war in Iran is going badly and 50% say gas prices have been a financial hardship. A CBS News/YouGov poll conducted last week shows Trump’s approval rating is only 39%.
Despite all that, House Speaker Mike Johnson doesn’t seem too worried about the midterms, believing he literally has God on your side.

inflation is through the roofWages are stable and Trump has benefited from the presidency in truly historic ways. The president earned $2.4 billion last year, according to Forbesa figure so irritatingly corrupt that anyone finds it difficult to believe he is real. The question is whether Americans want to reward that kind of behavior. It really might take an act of God to get Trump’s friends over the finish line in November. In the absence of divine intervention, AI fantasies will have to suffice for now.
