Apple TV and Apple Music for Android are rolling out major updates today, with home screen widgets as a shared theme.
Apple TV 2.5 introduces three widgets that add the “Continue Watching” carousel from the top of the main tab to the home screen. Apple TV Small shows one episode/movie, while Medium doubles it.
Apple TV Large features larger illustrations for the first item along with a scrolling list to explore. Tapping it immediately starts playback.
The widgets cannot be resized and match what is available on iOS. Version 2.5 for Apple TV is now available via Play Store.
On a related note, Apple Music 6.5 It is being widely implemented today. It’s a big jump from version 5.2 and it could be that Apple syncs its numbering to match iOS versions (26.5 is the current stable version on the iPhone).
This update adds two new widgets. Pins lets you “quickly access your pinned items,” while Live Radio saves you from visiting the dedicated tab to start playback. These additions are in addition to Now Playing, Recently Played, Recommendations, and Top Lists.
Today’s other update allows you to “Share songs, albums, playlists and lyrics on WhatsApp.”
