In its latest “Privacy on iPhone” ad, Apple is pretty harsh in its attempt to make Android phones look old and ugly.
Released this afternoon, Apple’s new iPhone ad is all about privacy through the Safari browser, and Apple shows online data trackers as real people looking over your shoulders while you browse the web, in a not-so-subtle way. “oh, chrome” joke thrown in as the icing on the cake.
In the ad, the iPhone 17 Pro Max is shown in its vibrant and attractive Cosmic Orange color, while the Android phones in the ad are, well, ridiculous. The dummy device shown is thick and square with a small camera and an awkward-looking selfie camera cutout. Actually, it doesn’t mirror any real Android phone, also maybe those tremendously resistant, but does anyone really buy them?
It’s not like this is the first time Apple has represented Android phones in this way; It’s actually a pretty common occurrence. But this is a particularly egregious example. It’s not just about using an outdated Android phone to give Android phones a bad look, it’s about using a device that simply doesn’t reflect the real world at all.
