Brand New Day synopsis hints at mysterious villain

We already know a lot about Spider-Man: New Daycast and characters, but the movie still has some surprises in store. Obviously, Tom Holland, Zendaya, and Jacob Batalon return as Peter Parker, Michelle “MJ” Jones, and Ned Leeds, respectively, but we also meet quite a few of the film’s villains, including Scorpion (Michael Mando), Tombstone (Marvin Jones III), The Hand, Tarantula, and Boomerang.

However, one confirmed cast member whose character remains a mystery is sadie sink. Sink is rumored to be playing gray jeans since his casting was first announced, but so far there has been no confirmation of that. However, a new synopsis on the film’s official website has significantly increased those odds. Says:

It’s a NEW DAY for Peter Parker. Fighting crime full-time as Spider-Man in a world that doesn’t remember him (and the pressure of watching his old friends move on without him) causes a change in Peter that he may not have the power to control. But that transformation might also be the only thing that can stop a shocking new threat to the city and its loved ones: a powerful villain that no one can even see.

The world may have forgotten Peter Parker, but he hasn’t forgotten them.

The description “a powerful villain that no one can see” doesn’t match any of the film’s confirmed villains, but it could describe Grey, one of the most powerful mutants in the world. Gray cannot turn invisible in the traditional sense, but he can become effectively invisible with a telekinetic cloaking ability.

Interestingly, the synopsis describes the mysterious new character as “a powerful villain”; If you’re referring to Grey, introducing her to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as an unambiguous villain rather than a complex character who vacillates between heroic and villainous tendencies seems like an odd choice.

It’s unlikely we’ll have any more clarity on Sink’s character until Spider-Man: New Day debuts in theaters July 31. In the meantime, you can book tickets for the film starting Wednesday, June 17.
