Activision and Infinity Ward have announced that digital pre-orders for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will grant early access to the campaign starting October 16, one week before the game’s official launch on October 23. This early access is exclusive to digital pre-orders.
Modern Warfare 4 is the first Call of Duty game to skip next-gen consoles. It will be available in xbox X|S series, PlayStation 5, nintendo switch 2and PC through platforms such as Xbox on PC, Steamand Battle.net.
What the digital pre-order and Game Pass delay includes
Digital pre-orders unlock the following on October 16: access to the full Modern Warfare 4 campaign one week before public launch, already announced pre-order Operator Packs, and standard launch day access to multiplayer and DMZ modes on October 23.
Early access does not apply to physical pre-orders.
Despite being a Microsoft title, Modern Warfare 4 will not be available on Xbox Game Pass or PC Game Pass until October 23, 2027, one year after its release.
The delay comes after Microsoft’s recent restructuring of Game Pass following the price increase in October 2025, which led to a loss of subscribers.
Additionally, new Call of Duty releases have been removed from Game Pass availability on day one as part of the reduction in the price of the Game Pass Ultimate subscription to $22.99 per month.
Campaign plot, spoiler risk and trailer performance
The campaign centers on Private Park, a young South Korean soldier who faces real combat after North Korea launches a full-scale invasion of the South. The conflict becomes the front line of the campaign.
Captain Price returns, voiced by Barry Sloane, driven by revenge for the death of Soap MacTavish at the hands of the series’ antagonist, Makarov. The reveal trailer shows Price working with former TF141 adversary Valeria “El Sin Nombre” Garza. It also features an exchange between Price and Ghost, where Ghost accuses Price of breaking the rules. Price responds: “No more rules.”
Infinity Ward has been unusually transparent about the campaign’s history during its pre-launch marketing. Now that early access to the campaign is available a week before the official launch, players who wait until the public launch face a higher risk of encountering spoilers through streams, social media, and discussion forums during the early access period.
The Modern Warfare 4 reveal trailer has been viewed 58 million times on YouTube in two weeks. This surpasses the 49 million views the Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 trailer received nine months earlier. The positive response has led to discussions about the game’s potential commercial success.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is now available for pre-order through participating retailers, platform stores, or at CallofDuty.com.
