Activision has only released a pretty major piece of Obligations news in the most informal way imaginable; The latest generation consoles are available.
In response to rumors that emerged online via the official Call of Duty

I’m not sure where this started, but it’s not true. The next Call of Duty is not being developed for PS4.May 4, 2026
That both next-gen consoles lasted this long is quite remarkable, but then you have to figure out why. Given the cost of making a Call of Duty game, the player base had to be there to make it worthwhile. So on that front, there are probably a lot of people who simply won’t be able to play this year’s game.
But I’m happy to hear it. For one thing, it’s no longer a good enough experience on Xbox One and PS4.
I tried Black Ops 7 on Xbox One during its beta period, and the difference was night and day. Admittedly, I haven’t been back since, but given its condition then, I can’t imagine it was possible to improve it enough. So I said we had to put the past behind us and it looks like we’re doing just that.
Modern Warfare 4 (if that’s what it’s really called) already faces this. Xbox recently made the decision to remove future Call of Duty titles from Xbox Game Passwhich is a factor that can affect the player count. We now know that next-gen console players are also out.
Then, of course, the looming goliath: GTA 6. Call of Duty traditionally releases in the fourth quarter of the year these days, and there’s nothing to suggest it will be any different by 2026. GTA 6 is currently scheduled to release on November 19. Call of Duty is great, but GTA is something else.
So it will be an interesting year to follow on all fronts. On the one hand, not being hamstrung by next-gen consoles should give breathing room to create a better product overall. But with two self-inflicted decisions that could reduce the player pool and one that no one can do anything about… I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
Is this the right decision or is it a big mistake? Take the poll above and let me know why you voted that way in the comments below!
