As AI models become more powerful, there will also be a level of danger. Anthropic announced Mythos not long ago as a model that was too dangerous for public availability, but a new version of it, Claude Fable 5, is now available and apparently “safe for general use.”
In a post todayAnthropic explains that Claude Fable 5 is a “Mythos-class” model that is available for public use and exceeds the capabilities of any other generally available AI model that Anthropic has published.
The capabilities of Fable 5 exceed those of any model we have made available to the public. It is the latest in almost all tested AI capability benchmarks and shows exceptional performance in software engineering, knowledge work, vision, scientific research, and many other areas. The longer and more complex the task, the greater the advantage of Fable 5 over our other models.
The fear with Mythos mainly revolved around cybersecurity, as the model was quickly found to be able to find and use exploits in the digital world. With Fable, Anthropic says there are safeguards in place and if an issue arises that Fable cannot interact with, Close Job 4.8 Instead, you’ll enter the conversation. Anthropic says it has adjusted this “conservatively,” so it could trigger more frequently than expected.
Meanwhile, Claude Mythos 5 will be available to “a small group of cyber defenders and infrastructure providers” as the same model as Fable 5, but with “protections lifted in some areas.”
Mythos 5 will initially roll out via Glass Wing Projectin collaboration with the US government, as an update to Claude Mythos Preview. It has the strongest cybersecurity capabilities of any model in the world. We soon plan to expand access to Mythos 5 through a broader Trusted Access program.
Anthropic adds that the “capabilities of models like Fable 5 and Mythos 5 have the potential to do great good for the world” and shows some dramatic advances in tasks like agent coding, tool usage, and cybersecurity compared to Mythos Preview, Opus 4.8, GPT 5.5, and Gemini 3.1 Pro.

However, the launch of Fable 5 will be a bit complicated.
Anthropic says that starting today, Fable 5 is available for all seat-based Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise plans, but only until June 23. At that point, Fable 5 will switch to a credit-based usage plan in hopes of restoring standard access “when sufficient capacity allows.”
- From today until June 22, Fable 5 is included in seat-based Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise plans at no additional cost.
- On June 23, we will remove Fable 5 from those plans. Using it after that will require usage credits. If capacity allows, we will expand the included window.
- After this point, when sufficient capacity allows, we aim to restore Fable 5 as a standard part of subscription plans. We intend to do this as quickly as we can.
