Disney Is Trying to Offset ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ IMAX FOMO

This winter, moviegoers will face a choice not seen since July 21, 2023. While “Barbenheimer“It ended up in a win-win situation.Barbie It was the highest-grossing film of the year, and oppenheimer won the Oscar for Best Picture; It is not yet known for sure who will be promoted on December 18, 2026. Dune: part threethe final entry in Denis Villeneuve’s acclaimed science fiction trilogy, Queen? or will Avengers: Judgment DayWill Marvel’s bold attempt to recapture the magic of superhero movies win the battle?

It’s too early to tell, especially after both films showed new and exciting teases at this week’s CinemaCon. But one movie has a clear advantage heading into that popcorn-heavy weekend. Dune: part three has the IMAX market locked, meaning you’ll be able to show off your gritty action on the most coveted big screens.

However, Disney wouldn’t like fans to know that Doomsday will continue to look and sound as fantastic as possible, thanks to their newly announced “Infinity Vision.”

According a press releaseInfinity Vision is not a simple trick; is “a new certification for premium large format theaters (PLF).” If a movie theater is certified, it means audiences can expect “the biggest, brightest and most immersive movie experiences” based on “rigorous technical standards” for screen size, picture clarity and sound.

While that sounds encouraging, it also seems like there’s some FOMO here. Infinity Vision certified theaters are actually normal theaters that can boast top-notch equipment. It is not the same as watching a movie in the huge and fast-paced IMAX format.

However, one has to guess that Disney wanted to make sure that Marvel fans (who, let’s face it, have a lot of crossover with Dune fans—they didn’t feel abandoned. Perhaps the studio hopes to encourage people who might have expected to see Doomsday Go opening weekend anyway. After all, you have to consider how to avoid spoilers!

The press release notes that Infinity Vision will include “more than 75 domestic and 300 global PLF exhibitors.” You’ll be able to experience it for the first time during the September re-release of Avengers: Endgameand then of course in December when Doomsday arrives.
