Any home will surely have a mess of cables somewhere in the corner, all tangled and messy. This is usually a workstation, office desk, or nightstand. Wherever the clutter is, your cargo area needs to be tidied up.
One of the many ways to prevent that mess from accumulating is by investing in magnetic and tangle-free products. USB-C cables. I’ve been testing the Scosche MagStack USB-C to USB-C magnetic charging cable to see if it’s a viable solution.
Scosche is not the only brand that makes these types of cables, but we will talk about that later.
Get the perfect coil that stays wrapped
A magnetic USB-C is like any other USB-C cable. You can choose the length you want; There are options from 60W to 100W, and these cables are nylon braided, so they’re sure to last longer than your average plastic-coated cables.
What makes it a “tangle-free” cable is that the Scosche MagStack cable coils automatically. And since it’s magnetic, the coil doesn’t come apart. Instead, it stays still and maintains its shape until you move it.
This looks much better than a bunch of cables crossing and getting tangled. It looks even cleaner than cable ties and you don’t need to undo the cable tie every time you want to extend the cable when in use.
If you have a metal table, bulletin board, wall panel, or desk, this works even better.
For example, you can run the cable from the floor, where it plugs into a charger or a lower outlet. Instead of the cable falling out or getting tangled on the table, you can magnetically stick it to the side of the table if it is made of metal.
And when the cable is not in use, you can simply mount it on the metal wall panel or bulletin board.
Where can you get a magnetic cable? It’s worth it?
So far, I have only come across two brands that make these types of magnetic cables: Statik and Scosche. In fact, Scosche partnered with Statik to create their version of the Scosche MagStack magnetic cable, so Statik takes all the credit.
The Scosche MagStack USB-C to USB-C 6ft Tangle-Free Magnetic Charging Cable is rated at 60W and is a USB-C 3.2 cable. For $29.99That’s not a bad price at all. You can choose from many cool braided nylon colors and patterns, and there are also USB-C to USB-A or Lightning variants. Unfortunately, not all variants come in the same wide variety of colors or 6-foot options. So if you want a more powerful cable with more variants, go to the original creator.
Statik offers Statik MagStack Pro, a more powerful 100W nylon braided cable available in three solid colors and several variants. First of all, you can choose between 3 and 6 foot long options. Secondly, you can choose between USB-Ca-USB-C, USB-Aa-USB-C, and Lightning-to-USB-C options. The basic 3-foot USB-Ca-USB-C the option costs $22.99while the The 6 foot option is $24.99.
Clearly, Statik has more versatile options available. On top of all that, you can even choose a flatter cable style shaped like nylon braided fettuccine. This C-to-C variant is called Statik MagStack Slim Pro and costs $22.99 for the 3 foot one version and $24.99 for the longest 6 foot one.
Both Statik and Scoche cables support data transfer speeds of 480 Mbps.
Whichever brand you choose, it will offer you a neat, tangle-free solution at a reasonable price. The quality is more or less the same, I found it durable and well made. The magnets are also quite strong and support the weight of the coiled cable without untangling.
Just don’t put your debit or credit card near the magnetic cable.
