welcome to Featured Standalone App. This is a weekly 9to5Mac series where we showcase the latest apps in the world of standalone apps. If you are a developer and want your app to appear, get in contact.
iPhone cameras have come a long way over the years, but if you crave a sleeker cinematic look than today’s computational photography, Kiosk 27 could be a fun option for you.
Highlights
First of all, Kiosk 27 uses sensor RAW processing. It’s not just a filter placed on top of the camera’s normal output. This gives it a very real appearance. The developer has over 20 years of experience in analog photography, which increases the realism of everything.
It also offers all the features you’d expect from a camera app, such as a timer, flash, and focus lock. On top of that, there are a few things to enhance the movie experience, including a date stamp, a fog effect, and the ability to adjust the look of the film, right down to grain and bloom.
Just like you would experience with film, the app takes a negative photo first and then converts it to a positive one on the device. As with movies, you have a limited reel of film: 27 shots. Obviously, everything is still digital, so you can go further, but it’s a nice limitation that keeps you aware of your shots. Personally, I love this level of focus and it’s part of the reason I like shooting movies in the first place.
Finally, Kiosk 27 It also offers a widget on the home screen so you can keep track of your current run. In my testing, I really love how the photos look, so you should give it a try! Frankly, the only thing I would like to see is support for Camera Control, at least for launching the app.
Download the application
Kiosk 27 is available in the App Store for $12.99. There are no ads, in-app purchases, or subscriptions once you purchase it; It’s just a one-time purchase. You will need an iPhone running iOS 18.6 or later.
