The Cadillac Optiq, which competes in the same segment, costs almost $10,000 less. Despite this huge price difference, the Optiq feels like an equally successful luxury SUV, one that comes packed with high-quality materials and plenty of modern, innovative tech features.

The Optiq used to come standard with a dual-motor all-wheel drive configuration. While not class-leading, space in the rear is more than ample for adults, although some taller folks may feel a little cramped. The slope of the Optiq’s roofline looks fantastic on the outside, but it reduces cargo space a bit, although 26 cubes are enough for most people shopping in this segment.

Cadillac uses several nice materials in the Optiq’s cabin, from brushed metals to textured fabrics. The entire interior is pleasant to the touch and the build quality is excellent here. There are also some great comfort features available, including massaging front seats with adjustable lumbar support, 126-color ambient interior lighting, and quilted upholstery.

Infotainment and technology

Atop the dashboard of every Optiq is a massive 33-inch screen. This display has become standard on many Cadillac electric products. The screen acts as both an infotainment screen and a digital gauge cluster. The graphics are incredibly sharp and the system responds quickly and smoothly to inputs.

Unfortunately, Cadillac has decided to no longer offer Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, claiming that people don’t really need them. If you’re looking to maximize range, then the new BMW iX3 is definitely ahead of the Optiq, with the EPA estimating it will go over 400 miles on a single charge. As standard, all models except the V Series come equipped with the single-motor rear-drive configuration. This engine has a good 315 horsepower. Dual-motor models send power to the front and rear axles, generating a combined 440 horsepower. With this configuration, the compact SUV can reach up to 60 miles per hour in just 4.3 seconds. The V Series boosts power to 519 horsepower and accelerates to 60 miles per hour in an astonishing 3.5 seconds.

No Optiq comes close to 434 miles traveled by the BMW iX3. Even single-engine models are only rated at 317 miles. However, considering the Optiq’s much cheaper price and the fact that most other EVs in this segment hover around 300 miles of range, we think the Cadillac does quite well.

Cadillac provides each Optiq with an 85 kWh battery. The American automaker says that when connected to a DC fast charger, it can add up to 79 miles of range in 10 minutes.

It’s obvious that the iX3 outperforms the Optiq in a couple of different areas, particularly range. However, when you consider that the Optiq starts at $10,000 less than the iX3, the gap between the two doesn’t really seem that big. Cadillac’s electric compact SUV offers an excellent driving experience, plenty of interior space and a host of modern tech features, and its range is quite reasonable. In our opinion, it’s a great starting point for those looking to avoid the $60,000 price tag of BMW’s new electric vehicle.
