Galaxy Z Fold 8 could receive a delayed wireless charging update

Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked launch event is just around the corner, but more details have emerged about the Galaxy Z Fold 8’s wireless charging speed.

TO naver post Lanzuk claims the Galaxy Z Fold 8 will have 20W wireless charging capability (via SamMobile). The information provided in the post links that charging rate to the wide Galaxy Z Fold 8, and doesn’t seem to clearly imply that the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra will have the same charging rate.

That doesn’t mean the more expensive model will charge slower. Previous leaks indicated from the beginning that the two foldables have 45W wired charging plus a larger battery. That’s a substantial improvement over the 25W rating of the Galaxy Z Fold 7.

It is unknown if the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra will also be capable of reaching 20W via wireless charging, but it is a strong possibility. The Galaxy Z Fold series hasn’t improved its wireless charging speed in several generations. It’s one of the few changes you need.

The leak also does not mention Qi2.2 or any other magnetic standard at all. It’s a disturbing, but expected, result for Samsung’s foldable devices. The Galaxy 26 series did not bring such a change, even though Google achieved it.

Leaks in recent months have indicated that Samsung plans to bring the “Qi2 ready” branding to its cases, leaving the magnets for accessories and not the device itself.

An upgrade to 20W wireless and 45W wired charging is still good. It’s a change Samsung needed to make to keep up. All other details will be revealed on July 22 in Galaxy Unpacked.
