Gemini for Android uses Bubbles to let you multitask

After adding dynamic color Earlier this month, the Gemini overlay on Android now uses Bubbles to help keep track of conversations.

To access, start a conversation from the Gemini overlay. Once you see the floating response, tapping elsewhere on the screen will minimize Gemini to a bubble that simply features the spark logo.

The first time you use it, Google explains that “Gemini is still available while you multitask. Tap to expand. Drag to move or dismiss.”

Tapping the bubble brings up the overlay and Gemini’s full response so you can continue the conversation. Previously, you would lose that chat after closing the overlay and had to open the entire app to resume it.

It’s a bit like Gemini Live’s floating waveform circle, and the chat experience is now somewhat similar. Presumably the goal is to allow you to continue talking to Gemini while you perform other tasks. With the launch of Android 17You can also Bubble in the main app for similar continuous access.

So far, we have only received one report with Android 17 QPR1 Beta. It does not appear on the devices we review today.
