Google discontinues Nest Mini and Nest Audio after new speaker

Google has confirmed that it has ended production of Nest Mini and Nest Audio, its 5+ year-old smart speakers, as the Google Home speaker is now replacing both devices.

The Nest Mini, released in 2019, served as an entry point to Google Assistant as a smart home assistant. The album you always listen to offered a surprisingly good speaker, stereo pairs, and finally added Gemini compatibility, all for a device that cost just $35. Meanwhile, Nest Audio offered a larger form factor with improved audio quality for $100 and launched in 2021.

While the latter was always expected to bite the dust following the debut of the $100 Google Home Speaker, the Nest Mini will also be gone for good.

Google, speaking with TechAdvisorconfirmed that production has ended on both devices.

As we continue to build the future of the smart home, we are refining our portfolio of Google Home and Nest devices. As part of this evolution, we ended production of the Google Nest Mini and Google Nest Audio.

We remain deeply committed to our smart home ecosystem and the millions of people who use our products every day. Existing Nest Mini and Nest Audio devices will continue to be fully supported with regular software updates, security patches, and customer support.

While support remains (Google still actively supports even its first-generation Google Home speaker released in 2016), the hardware will run out. And with the discontinuation of the Nest Mini, the Google ecosystem is left without a cheaper entry point.

The Nest Hub and Nest Hub Max also remain actively on sale, although there have been some evidence of a new “Google Home Display” in the works.

RIP Nest Mini and Nest Audio.
