TL;DR
- Google has acknowledged a bug that prevents Gemini from correctly handling streaming requests on Google Home devices.
- Instead of relaying messages, Geminis respond to them as if they were normal conversations.
- Google says it is actively working on a fix and will update users once it begins rolling out.
Google is working on a solution for a frustrating Gemini Bug preventing the Google Home casting feature from working as intended.
A Reddit user recently reported that the stream had been down for several days. According the publicationGemini no longer sends ads to connected Google Home speakers and displays. Instead, it treats broadcast messages as normal messages and responds to them conversationally.
For example, when the user says “Time for dinner,” Gemini responds “I’m not eating.” By saying, “It’s time to go,” Gemini responds with something like, “Oh, okay, so let’s cancel that for now,” instead of conveying the message to the family.
The user says that Broadcast is the most used Google Home feature in his family, which makes the error even more annoying.
Fortunately, it doesn’t seem like users will have to wait long for a fix. Responding to the complaint, Google said:
Hey, thanks for the comments. We are actively working to fix this issue and will return once it begins rolling out. We appreciate your patience.
It’s good to see Google recognize the problem so quickly. In recent months, the company has been remarkably proactive in addressing complaints from Google Home users.
More recently, it acted quickly to resolve a Google Home speaker setup error That caused some new users to encounter errors when setting up their devices.
So if you’ve recently noticed that the Gemini is responding to your broadcast messages instead of sending them through the Google Home speakers, it looks like Google is already on the case.
