Google Wallet adds support for three more digital passport IDs

Following the initial launch in two countries, Google Wallet for Android now supports three more passport IDs.

This allows you to add your passport as a digital ID. Support first released for US passports before expand to the UK last year.

We are now looking at adding passports from Brazil, Singapore and Taiwan. To start the process, tap the FAB (Floating Action Button) ‘plus’ and then ID. Under “Identification Pass”, select your passport.

This three-step process involves taking a photo of the information page of your passport. You then scan the security chip embedded in the back cover of your passport with the NFC chip in your phone. Finally, you send a short selfie video to verify that you are a real person.

1. Place your passport on a flat surface.
2. Open the front cover, back cover or photo page of your passport.
3. To scan, make sure NFC is activated and remove the phone case.
4. To find the chip, slowly move the back of your phone inside the front, back, or photo page of your passport.

You can only add one ID pass to your Google Account. The passport can be removed from Google Wallet using the phone app or online at myaccount.google.com.
