Problems arise with Google’s Nest Hub, as user reports on social media highlight a strange problem with its sense of time.
It’s unclear how widespread this issue is, but a user on the Google Home subreddit reports that its Nest Hub Gen 2 is having issues over time (via Android Authority). The user claims that while his device may set the correct time (say, three o’clock, for example), it will mess up the end of AM/PM. They claim that if they want to set an alarm for 3 pm, their Nest Hub Gen 2 will do it. say It is set for 3 am.
Android Central’s opinion
This sounds like a joke. It looks like the Nest Hub Gen 2 is stuck on the opposite day. You tell him one thing, but he says the same thing with a hint of the opposite. It’s good that the device in fact sets the right moment and it is the part of the speech that is wrong. But still, even that’s enough to make people look back and say, “Huh? I didn’t say that…”
This is a great topic; a twelve-hour issue, to be exact. The part of speech is the main problem, as the user reports that the alarm they want is correct. Nest Hub will set it for 3 pm; however, it is the device’s AI speech that is incorrect. The user tried to test this further by asking their Nest Hub Mini for an alarm, but not only did it set the correct time, it speak correctly too.

The Nest Hub Gen 2’s vocal capabilities are being questioned this week, but Google is apparently on the case. One response says the company is aware and working to fix it. At the moment, the publication does not indicate when it will arrive. As noted above, it’s unclear how affected Nest Hub Gen 2 users are. The publication even brought up the topic, pointing out how scarce reports of this issue are.
Smart home problems
It’s been a while since we last had issues with Nest devices. There were some reports This also affected Google Home products. The speakers and screens struggled and stopped responding when given verbal commands. Users trying to ask the devices about the weather and other mundane questions were met with silence. Google began fixing those issues some time later, although it took a while, given that those reports hit around the holidays.
Android Central’s opinion
While Nest devices have had their fair share of bugs, Google has really focused on Gemini for Home lately. Specifically, it has been trying to improve its speaking and listening capabilities, so that users don’t experience anything uncomfortable. So far, it seems like the updates they’ve been rolling out have been helpful. But of course, what matters most is what the user thinks.
Hopefully this time the problems won’t last as long, even if it’s just a matter of speech. In more interesting news, Google implemented Continuous conversations for Gemini. Now, the AI will keep its “ears” open a little longer after receiving a command from the user. Google sees this as a way to keep things natural while making it easier to ask follow-up questions.
