Google’s Pixel 10a changed the way I take phone photos and it’s just $399 for Prime Day

I love the Google Pixel 10a for the quality of the camera it offers, but I freely admit that the official price of $499 is daunting for what is ultimately a heated 9a. Fortunately, that’s not a problem at the moment: Amazon is selling the Pixel 10a. for $100 off during Prime Day 2026, making this budget phone much easier to justify.

That brings the 10a’s base price down to $399, and you’ll see a similar $100 discount for the black (Obsidian) 256GB model. Amazon charges almost $22 more for other 256GB colors, although it’s still a good deal.

The Pixel 10a is the definition of a minor hardware upgrade. Compared to the 9a, it has a brighter 6.3-inch display with thinner bezels, stronger glass, a recessed rear camera module, slightly faster charging, and emergency satellite service. You still get the same Tensor G4 chip, camera array (48MP main, 13MP ultrawide, 13MP selfie), and 5,100mAh battery.

However, starting at $399, that makes it the phone to beat in its price category for mobile photography. Photos are vibrant and sharp in most conditions thanks to Google processing, and you get most AI features, like Best Take (for the best faces in group shots) and Magic Eraser (to get rid of photobombers).

The Pixel 10 is so good that I’ll skip the Pro model this year

It’s no longer just an afterthought.

The Tensor G4 is pretty fast at this price and the exceptional battery life (I’ve never run out in a single day) makes the 10a ideal for long photography excursions with my family. I also appreciate receiving the latest software from Google as quickly as possible; was eligible for Android 17 from day one, something that cannot be said for some phones that cost two or three times more.

You miss out on Google’s most advanced on-device AI (not Gemini Intelligence here) due to 8 GB of RAM. And if you need more performance, you’d better get a Pixel 10 Pro or waiting for the probable Pixel 11 Series at the end of this summer. However, for $399, the Pixel 10a is hard to beat for everyday snapshots.
