Apple confirmed in January that Google’s Gemini AI model will to new power siri characteristics. Not only does that free us from the need to wait for Apple’s own AI models to catch up, but it also means we have a pretty good idea of what to expect.

For a long time, it seemed like Apple planned to use its own artificial intelligence models to power the new Siri. This raised questions about how powerful it could be and when it would finally be released.
Rumors emerged that the iPhone maker was planning to partner with Google for access to its Gemini models, and the company confirmed this earlier in the year.
“After careful evaluation, we determined that Google technology provides the most capable foundation for Apple Foundation models and we are excited about the innovative new experiences it will unlock for our users.”
This seems to offer the best of both worlds: the best AI models along with Apple’s privacy protections.
A beta version of Gemini Personal Intelligence provided an exciting preview of what we can expect.
Personal Intelligence can retrieve specific details from text, photos, or videos in your Google apps to personalize Gemini’s responses. This includes Google Workspace (Gmail, Calendar, Drive, etc.), Google Photos, your YouTube watch history, and all the various Google search services you’ve used (Search, Shopping, News, Maps, Google Flights, and Hotels). Of course, the Apple version will pull information from Apple apps like Mail, Calendar, Photos, and Notes.
Android program revealed Other upcoming Gemini features which will probably also come to the new Siri.
Task automation will work in more applications and will support screen/image context. For example: “Imagine you have a long shopping list in your Notes app. Simply long-press the power button on the list and ask Gemini to create a shopping cart with all the items for delivery.”
Autofill with Google is getting (opt-in) Gemini Personal Intelligence to support more form types.
Gboard Rambler upgrades speech input with Gemini models that understand the core of what you want to type and filters out filler words, pauses, repetitions, and autocorrects.
Android is getting a generative UI, starting with the ability to create custom home screen widgets and Wear OS tiles that are populated with information from the web and your Google apps.
Whether an Apple version of the latter will make it to iOS 27 remains to be seen, but it’s certainly something I’d love to see.
