We’re still trying to recover and regroup after Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked yesterday. However, Honor, like all of us, was watching and wants to go head to head: pit its Magic V6 against the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra.
Honor has a clear vision that it wants to make a reality with its foldable devices. In a press release, it told Android Central that “foldable devices are evolving rapidly and we believe side-by-side testing can give consumers the clearest picture of what matters…” There are a lot of things we can feel overwhelmed with after Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra; However, one area that my colleague Nicholas Sutrich and I are most interested in is the battery.
Honors magic v6 It has a 6,660 mAh battery with 80 W wired charging and 66 W wireless charging capabilities. For comparison, Samsung’s Fold 8 Ultra only offers a 5,000 mAh battery, a 600 mAh improvement over the Fold 7 (which is successful). What’s more, Samsung continues to play it “safe” (you could say), offering 45W wired charging and 20W wireless charging.
The company then highlights the technology it has built into its foldable batteries, as this area is typically a “major compromise,” according to its press release. Honor highlights the use of silicon batteries to solve this common problem.
Another area where the Honor’s side-by-side comparison is a bit ahead of the Fold 8 Ultra is its display. While the numbers are pretty close, Honor claims that the Magic V6 features a 1.5% “low reflectivity” display. Plus, its Pocket AI Workstation features seamless connectivity with iOS, Mac, and Windows, enabling one-touch photo sharing and more on iPhones and Macs.

While the choice is always up to the consumer as to which device suits them, it’s not all bad for Samsung. With its Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Fold 8 Ultra, Samsung also uses silicon-carbon battery technology. This technology improves what we already expect from our phone batteries. Silicon and carbon technology packs more capacity into the same space. In short, you can have a bigger phone without a thicker phone (and we know Samsung likes thin phones). The Fold 8 Ultra features a 5,000 mAh battery, while the wider Fold 8 offers a 4,800 mAh cell.
The good news is that the devices are relatively thin. But what’s interesting is how long it has taken Samsung to deliver a push in an area that matters. As Sutrich reminded me, the 2024 Honor’s Magic V3 had a 5,080 mAh battery. Those totals have only grown.
Durability is another area where Honor highlights its strengths. The Magic V6 is thin, but Offers durability like no other.. Both parties have made huge improvements to their hinge technology, so the choice is really yours.
Android Central’s opinion
There are other areas where Honor’s Magic V6 outperforms the Galaxy Z Fold 8. If we look at its selfie camera, the Magic V6 offers two 20MP lenses, while the Fold 8 makes do with two 10MP lenses. However, the Fold 8’s main camera is 200MP. Honor’s is 60MP, but it surpasses its competitor’s telephoto lens with 64MP. You may like both phones. I certainly do.
