Huawei smart glasses crush Meta’s Ray-Bans in a key category

Huawei’s first pair smart glasses with camera are official and, as we suspected, they are quite similar to the Ray-Ban Meta AI glasses. Features include a 12-megapixel camera for POV photos and videos, translation, and a voice assistant. Sounds familiar, right? Although it is almost the same as what we have seen before, there is is a difference that gives Huawei glasses One plus: the battery.

Huawei’s first smart glasses equipped with a camera you apparently get nine hours of battery life with continuous music playback, which is significantly more than the maximum amount of battery life advertised by Meta for its Ray Meta Gen 2 Tires smart glasses. Meta says its Gen 2 glasses last eight hours for general/intermittent use, but that figure drops to about five hours for continuous music playback. How exactly Huawei gets nearly double the battery life and whether it holds up in real-life tests remains to be seen, but it’s impressive on paper.

One figure that’s a little less impressive than you might initially think is the weight. According to Huawei, its smart glasses weigh just 35g, which is almost 20g lighter than the Ray-Ban Meta AI Gen 2 glasses, which weigh between 50 and 53g depending on the frame size. That caught my attention immediately, but it turns out that’s the weight. without considering the lenses, which… kind of sucks. Call me skeptical, but I somehow doubt people go around wearing smart glasses without lenses.

With Taking lenses into account, the lightest model of Huawei’s AI glasses weighs 47g, which is still lighter than Meta’s Ray-Bans, but not by much. It’s hard to say exactly where the weight reduction comes from, but Huawei is using titanium in its smart glasses, so that could be a factor. There’s a style with a titanium rim around the lenses (the lightest), and Huawei says it also uses a titanium hinge, which aims to make them more stable than the competition.

Either way, Huawei’s first camera-equipped smart glasses will be comparable to the Ray-Ban Meta AI glasses in terms of cost, with an MSRP of 2,499 yuan (around $367). The Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 AI glasses start at about $379.
