It’s exhibition game season and Metasearch it is now on its second only in May. First, we obtained the Creature Feature Display in early May, and now the father-and-son VR podcast duo just held their second annual Ruff Talk VR Gaming Showcase, with over two dozen announcements and update trailers to get Meta Quest players excited.
And while I have many favorites from the show, one ad really touched me. The full showcase is in the video below, followed by my favorite highlights. Get ready to have fun!
Walkabout Mini Golf: The Homestar Runner Distraction Package
If you’re a millennial like me, you’ll no doubt remember Homestar Runner from the Macromedia Flash days. It’s a hilarious cartoon that spawned a ton of memes (you all know Trogdor the Burninator, right?), and now it’s coming to Meta Quest in a special Walkabout Mini Golf package.
but this it’s not a new course. Instead, it’s called The Homestar Runner Distraction Pack and contains:
- 6 activities to play and conquer!
- Best place to hang out: Strong Bad’s basement
- 18 collectible lost balls
- Custom putters to win
- Unique avatars and a custom ball course to channel your favorite characters.
- Unlockable Hole Celebrations
- (And more)
I still don’t know what the “more” part entails, but it’s releasing on June 25, so you have a month to save a few bucks for the DLC. Walkabout DLCs cost between $2 and $5, so we’re not talking a lot of cash. Either way, I’m THRILLED to see the Homestar Runner team in VR, and this might be my favorite update since Wallace & Gromit. for two years.
legends of heaven
this is currently out nowwhich is always a blast when it’s the first time you’re hearing about what sounds like an immersive and impressively polished narrative adventure. Repair planes, do some reconnaissance work, and make history in this 1920s virtual reality title.
survive the night
I have no idea why there wasn’t a trailer for Survive the Night, but I don’t need much convincing to get interested in the next game from The Binary Mill. If you’re not familiar with the developer’s name, they’re the ones behind Quest hits like Gun Club VR, Mini Motor Racing X, Into Black, and Resist. Survive the night is a free 4-player survival roguelike coming soon and you can wish list now.
Cave Crave Multiplayer Update
Cave Crave went viral on social media a few months ago due to its ability to take players on an adventure that 99.9% of them could never (or even want) in real life. Cave diving can be extremely dangerous, as proven by the Nutty Putty Cave in the game, and now you can join your friends in the new multiplayer update to make things even more like the real thing, but without all the real dangers.
Fiona’s Knights
From the developers at Ruinsmagus comes a new virtual reality JRPG that looks full of elegance and character. A new trailer was shown during the showcase, giving a deeper look at the gameplay, characters, and world ahead of the next trailers that should be out next week.
If you’re at BitSummit in Kyoto, Japan, May 22-24, you’ll be able to play it yourself. Otherwise, expect to see some how-to videos on YouTube and wishlist play now before its full release.
And there’s so much more to see in the showcase at the top of this article, so check it out and let us know which ad was your favorite!
