Look, it’s Friday. OpenAI updated the Codex. Has Tamagotchi style pets. You can make your own. Lil Finder Guy is floating above my Dock.
This is the moment when Codex really becomes a super app
The new /pet feature within Codex is really just for fun.
You can type “/pet” to show or hide one of several playful little creatures: there are no elves for some reason – or make your own.
Codex mascots are like little Dynamic Island-style messengers that basically tell you what Codex is doing in the background while you use your Mac.
They’re cute, it’s the weekend, everyone wins.
Perhaps the most practical thing about Codex’s new pet feature is that it gives people who value animated virtual friends a new reason to try Codex. Worst case scenario, you’ll end up doing something productive.
Or, in my case, you poke around a little, spend a few minutes Apple Guy Basic Websiteresponds to some prompts, prepares a pot of rice on the stove and suddenly lil finder boy is hovering over the Finder icon with a message to share:
“Here’s to the little ones. The square pegs on the dock. The blue and white dreamers. The little helpers who wave, wobble, nap, and somehow make work seem lighter. Here’s to the Codex mascots.”
That’s probably my cue to go hit the grass. Wait, it’s raining. Even better.
