Icon Composer 2 and SF Symbols 8 now available as betas


Developers and designers can now download beta versions of Apple’s updated symbols library, as well as the next version of its Liquid Glass app icon creation tool. Here are the details.

Following Monday’s WWDC6 keynote, Apple updated its Design Resources portal with assets for iOS 27, iPadOS 27 and macOS 27 Golden Gate.

Notably, explicit download links to SF Symbols 8 beta and Icon Composer 2 beta were missing. However, both are available for download and you can grab them below:

SF Symbols 8 includes multiple new symbols introduced in iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27 Golden Gate, watchOS 27, tvOS 27and visionOS 27. In total, it features over 7,000 symbols that can take advantage of variable animations, effects and representations. introduced last year.

As for Icon Composer 2, it features:

Refraction: Bend the light through your icon. Refraction allows layers to capture and transmit color and shape of what is behind them. Dial in strength per layer, from subtle edge curvature to lens-like distortion.

New Specular Highlights: Sharp, specular highlights lift and define each layer, preserving contrast at the edges. Choose how highlights align with each layer, whether inside or outside, or let Icon Composer decide automatically.

Extended Preview: Preview how your icon will render on this year’s and last year’s operating systems so you can make it look great on both.
