iOS 27 adds three new iPhone features you’ll use all the time

iOS 27 releases this fall As the iPhone’s next major update, here are three new features that could be among the most used by many users.

#1: Siri AI

Whatever your opinion of Siri in the past, iOS 27’s Siri AI is different.

Siri didn’t just get an AI shine with some upgrades. Apple says “ripped (Siri) into the ground” and “rebuilt it from the ground up.”

Now you can ask Siri about anything, just like you could ask Google or ChatGPT, and it provides helpful, informed answers. You can also perform many more actions on your iPhone than before and it works smoothly and consistently across all your devices. And there’s a dedicated Siri app to keep all your conversations going.

I’ve been using iOS 27’s new Siri for almost two months and it instantly became a daily go-to for me.

#2: Automatic correction, including grammar

The iPhone has long offered a basic spell check feature that highlights any words it identifies as misspelled. Now in iOS 27, Apple is expanding the hotfix in two ways:

• Spell checker now works with Apple Intelligence
• there is a new tool to check grammar

Applying AI to the spell checker means that even if a word is technically spelled correctly, you’ll see word replacement suggestions if your iPhone thinks the word is being used incorrectly.

While spelling errors are usually underlined in red, suggested word replacements and grammatical problems are underlined in blue. Compared to common typos, this makes them seem more like optional suggestions than direct warning signs.

If you’re not a fan, you can always turn off review in Settings. But I guess for many users, these features will be welcome in iOS 27.

#3: Spotlight, Photos, and Mail search overhaul

Search is one of the most essential features for most apps and certainly for the iPhone as a whole. And in iOS 27, Spotlight search received a major overhaul.

In addition to having Siri fully integrated with Spotlight, the iPhone’s system-wide search has been rebuilt with a more comprehensive index of its content that always stays up to date throughout the day.

This means you should find Spotlight more useful than ever, delivering better, more relevant results for every search. Apple says the same new search engine that powers Spotlight has also been rolled out to the Photos and Mail apps, updating search in those key apps. So far in my tests, I can much tell the difference.
