- Recent rumors claim that Vivo and Honor are pursuing wider foldables; However, Huawei already has its version.
There’s been a lot of talk about “Wide” foldables in the phone space recently, and another recognizable name is surfacing: Oppo.
Rumors on Chinese social media platform Weibo from tipster Digital Chat Station (DCS) claim Oppo is working in a wider foldable aspect ratio (via GSMArena). The tipster suggests that the phone is being developed with a 7.6-inch inner display and a 5.5-inch cover display. Samsung Display and BOE are being considered to take over the display of the device once the situation progresses.
On the other hand, it is speculated that this “wide” foldable Oppo could feature a “perfect hinge.” As GSMArena also states, this probably refers to the hinge technology that minimizes the folding of the phone so that it is barely noticeable. Internally, DCS claims that the phone is getting ready to feature Qualcomm technology. Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 SoC, which would be its latest addition at the end of this year.
While this last note might give the impression that the debut could take place later this year, that’s not entirely accurate. Rumors claim that Oppo is trying to achieve a Q1 2027 debut for this wider foldable. However, DCS claims this is “tentative” but we weren’t holding our breath anyway.

Android Central’s opinion
This will be the next “thing”, won’t it? I guess, in a way, it already is. I guess that’s okay? The idea of a “wider foldable” isn’t that appealing, personally. I feel like if I want something broader I would go with a laptop or a tablet. I can see the appeal. A wider foldable lets you do more, whether watching videos, commuting or working, while functioning like a phone. It’s like the Spy Kids watch, which does a lot of things (except it doesn’t tell time).
Hearing that Oppo could have a wide range in the works reminds us of the rumors that said Honor and Vivo were working about the same. It was reported that Vivo’s version could debut as the “X Fold 6.” Regarding the inclusion of Honor, that model may not debut until 2027, something like what we heard about Oppo. Of course, these rumors about Honor and Vivo were made up to compete with Samsung.
In tipster rumors on Weibo this week, they claim that Oppo could have Apple instead. While these companies work to develop larger foldable products, one manufacturer has already done so: Huawei. He Huawei Pura X Max It was launched in mid-April, and it’s the wide folding model we’ve been waiting for, but not from Samsung (or Honor, or Vivo…). The OEM called its phone the first “horizontally wide” foldable phone, although, as my colleague Jay Bonggolta said, Google Pixel Fold Technically I already followed this path.
The Pura X Max features a 5.5-inch cover display and a 7.6-inch internal display with a 16:10 aspect ratio.
