Spring will have its big horror movie next week with The Mummy of Lee Cronin, and it sounds like one for psychopaths.
After its release before the weekend, reactions to the film have spread across social media. The general consensus seems to be that Cronin made a film that was both terrifying and quite twisted, and a particular delight for fans of his last film. The rise of the evil dead. If you’re not into Cronin’s brand of horror, this doesn’t sound like it’s for you, but we’ve still put together some of the posts below so you can make that decision for yourself.
Lee Cronin’s The Mummy: There are some really creepy scenes, but this movie really shines when it gets WITCH on. I wish marketing would lean a little more into that aspect: the natural inclination we all have to experience something a friend says is absolutely disgusting.

#LeeCroninsTheMummy is, without a doubt, the scariest, most disgusting mom movie you’ll ever see. Unforgiving in some ways that I can’t go into because there are spoilers, and it’s definitely not for everyone, but if you enjoyed Evil Dead Rise, you’ll probably love it. pic.twitter.com/t6ACbeylZH

#LeeCroninsTheMummy It’s a nasty, awful, mean-spirited, disgusting little shit movie. In other words, it’s a ripper. It sounds like Cronin watched BRING HIM BACK after bingeing THE OMEN, THE VANISHING, and BRAINDEAD and then said “you bet.” A little long in the tooth, but bites. Hard. pic.twitter.com/v7Ti2pcm5S

#LeeCroninsTheMummy it’s going hard It doesn’t stop. A creepy, creepy sight. Terrifying, scream-worthy and squirm-inducing. Natalie Grace is the MVP in a performance inspired by Linda Blair. A buffet of split diopter injections. @warnerbros pic.twitter.com/BWmxciSYxY

#LeeCroninsTheMummy changes the spectacle for an intimate domestic horror, turning family trauma and pain into something haunting and deeply disturbing. Visceral body horror with excellent squelching sound design that subverts what you’d expect from a monster movie. Your fingers and toes will curl! pic.twitter.com/c55KIIp2wk

#LeeCroninsTheMummy It’s the real damn deal. Nasty, sticky, gory and silly. Basically Lee Cronin’s Evil Dead Mummy, so if you liked his style in Rise, you’ll love this version of Mummy. Laia Costa remains one of my favorite actresses and Natalie Grace steals every scene she is in. pic.twitter.com/6G9EsHq76W

If you’re a fan of Lee Cronin’s Evil Dead Rise, you’ll have fun with what he brings to The Mummy. Odd choices here and there, but the spirit of a gross-out monster movie involving a little mummy is worth it. #LeeCroninsTheMummy pic.twitter.com/4AQKLpwUPV

The Mummy of Lee Cronin centers on a family that has just been reunited with Katie, the middle daughter who disappeared almost a decade ago. As the family adjusts to having Katie back in their lives, the father (Jack Reynor) tries to discover why she disappeared and what happened to her, while the young woman begins to act…off. Strange things begin to happen to the family and to her, and little by little they realize that something has returned to their daughter or taken over her completely.
For those open to Cronin’s brand of horror, it should be nice to hear the positive reactions, especially since the film’s marketing cycle began with rumors of fairly negative impressions from test audiences. Things haven’t stopped there: Warner Bros. has had to remind fans that this has no connection to universal trilogy from the early 2000s and as such, does not star Brendan Fraserwho will lead The Mummy 4 in 2028.
Leaving aside the confusion of name and continuity, The Mummy of Lee Cronin hits theaters this Friday, April 17. Look for full reviews before then.
