In a rare, detailed look at a device the public should never have seen, YouTuber Zack Nelson of JerryRigEverything took down LG’s unreleased rollable smartphone. The video reveals an almost finished product that still looks futuristic even though it was developed many years ago.

But getting back to the LG Rollable that never was, it’s surprising to see that the phone’s party trick, aka its sliding screen, looks surprisingly polished even in 2026. With a swipe of your finger, the 5.5-inch screen extends to almost 7.5 inches, approaching iPad mini territory without creases or manual unfolding.
LG even incorporated software tricks, including animated wallpapers that grow with the screen and a second rear screen mode where the flexible panel hides under glass to display widgets and camera previews. According to LG’s own internal rating cited in the video, the mechanism was designed for around 200,000 extensions.
Once the YouTuber removes the curved, flexible OLED, we see a thin “zipper” support structure on the edges and dust-blocking bristles lining the case to protect the rolled section of the display. Twin geared motors, assisted by three spring-loaded arms, keep the panel extended smoothly and evenly.
Honestly, the configuration seems very oversized and something that might not be ideal to manufacture at scale if the phone had actually hit the market. However, it is extremely impressive to see how well everything works inside, something that advances in design and engineering could improve even further today.
The rest of the phone has specs like a typical flagship of its era, including a 4,500mAh battery, a 64MP main camera with optical image stabilization, a 12MP ultrawide sensor, a rear fingerprint sensor, and USB-C connectivity.
The years-old unreleased roller actually survives disassembly.
Perhaps the most impressive moment in the video is seeing how the years-old, unreleased roll-up actually survives disassembly. After removing the glass panels, bezels, and a host of screws to lift up the flexible display and motor assembly, Nelson reassembles the device and successfully powers it back up. This shows that LG made the intricate roll-up capable of withstanding a complete dissection in case repairs were necessary.
The LG Rollable may have been ahead of its time in 2021, but in today’s foldable-obsessed market, a return could be very different. Who knows, it could become that aspirational device that enthusiasts are willing to spend thousands of dollars on.
