‘Magic Pointer’ app for Googlebooks launched on Play Store

While we wait more Googlebook details this fallGoogle has launched a “Magic Pointer” app on the Play Store.

This “Play Store starter listing for Magic Pointer” has a simple app description: “Select anything on your screen to get contextual AI suggestions and get help from Gemini seamlessly.” There is a cursor marked with the Gemini spark icon.

It is accompanied by mockups that explain how Magic Pointer can be used to select content and text for suggestions. In this example, highlighting an image of plants allows you to “Search with Lens,” “Create Image” via Nano Banana, and “Buy Now.”

These images offer a look at the Chrome interface on Googlebook. It’s not that different from the current experience with Android tablets. We also take another look at the system status bar.

Magic Pointer was released on Google Play on June 9 and has version 1.0.260708, while the package name is: com.google.android.desktop.gpointer.app. The app currently has “over 1000 downloads.” As expected, it is not currently compatible with any device other than Googlebook.

The existence of this list suggests that Google will be able to update Magic Pointer through the Play Store instead of having to wait for full OS updates.
