Microsoft Outlook for Mac has a peculiar bug that deletes the content of a previous conversation when replying or forwarding an email. Microsoft has confirmed the issue, but a fix has not yet been submitted.

Typically, replying to or forwarding an email through Outlook includes the entire original message. This inclusion makes it easier for the sender to compose their message and for the recipient to have the context of the conversation. But the faulty behavior in Outlook deletes the previous conversation and leaves only the new message.
The issue only occurs in the legacy version of Outlook for Mac. That old Outlook, which is a native app that has existed in some form for decades, will be retired in October. After the outage, legacy Outlook for Mac will receive security updates but will no longer work with Exchange Online mailboxes.
More than 95% of microsoft 365 Users have transitioned to the new Outlook for Mac app, according to Microsoft. The new Outlook focuses on cloud accounts and is the main version going forward.
On the Windows side, Microsoft’s shift to what is essentially a web app like the main Outlook has been controversial. But the new Outlook for macOS is a native app, which creates a strange situation where Outlook is arguably better on macOS than it is on Windows.
Problems with Microsoft Outlook are nothing new. The problems spread even beyond planet Earth when Commander Wiseman of the Artemis II You couldn’t check your email in space. But unwanted behavior is still frustrating.
“This is an extremely frustrating bug in this latest update and I hope a fix is on the way,” said user Stephan in response to the original thread. They added: “Frankly, it’s quite disappointing that something as important as this has completely bypassed the software testing process before implementation.”
While Microsoft investigates the issue with legacy Outlook for Mac, you have two options. You can migrate to the new Outlook (Microsoft official recommendation) or roll back to version 16.109 of legacy Outlook for Mac.
