Earlier this week, Google revealed a first look at some new 3D redesigns for the emoji found on Google Pixel phones and other Google products, and now we’re getting a closer look at all the changes ahead of its Android 17 release.
Love them or hate them, Google’s new 3D emoji There are only a few months left until its launch. But aside from a few quick images shared at this week’s The Android Show, we haven’t scratched the surface of the 4,000+ redesigns.
And we haven’t done it yet, but a leak is showing. a lot more from the library.
RKBDI leaked Google’s new Noto 3D emoji library in a post on Twitter/X and Telegramwhich easily displays around 250 of the new designs; The entire library can be installed on a rooted device. We can see many more face emojis, as well as some animals and objects. The 3D revamps change the look of the emoji design more on some devices than others: the beloved turtle, for example, looks more faithful to the original design than something like the skull emoji.
There are some pretty clear (and less subjective) improvements here too, like the moon phases.
Google has yet to officially release most of the new Android 17 emoji, with the redesign confirmed to arrive first on Pixel phones later this year.
Personally, I’m still on the fence about the new look, especially as the faces increasingly look like they’re copying the style found on Samsung devices, which in turn copy Apple. Google confirmed that these new designs are made by humans. not generated by AIas some were quick to assume.
