OnePlus seems to be in fresh soup again. The company recently launched the OnePlus N6 budget smartphone, and while we noted the hardware limitations between the two memory and storage variants of the phone in our coverage, the brand is being criticized for running marketing and promotional materials that mislead users by promising faster smoothness and 60fps video recording features on the lower 4GB variant that explicitly doesn’t support either.

While it remains incorrect and misleading, there is room to cut the company some slack as appropriate clarifications could be introduced at launch to clear things up. OnePlus posted disclaimers and clarifications, but only in a few places, namely the OnePlus N6 Home Page on the OnePlus India website.
As you can see from the disclaimers, point 6 states that the 60-month “seamless experience” claim applies to the 6GB variant of the OnePlus N6, while the 4GB variant of the OnePlus N6 promises a shorter “seamless experience” window of 48 months. Additionally, point 16 states that 60fps video recording is only available on the higher RAM variant, which implies that the lower RAM variant drops to 30fps.
These disclaimers are good and not a problem in themselves. However, the story falls apart when you look at the rest of the OnePlus N6 product lineup, as Beebom points out. If you check the “Buy Now” Shopping Listing for the OnePlus N6 4GBfreely claims a 60-month “seamless experience” and 60fps video recording with no disclaimer asterisks or numbered footnote references:
Scrolling down the list of the OnePlus N6 4GB, there is a footnote reference. However, there is no footnote, so it appears that the marketing material was carelessly copied and pasted from somewhere else.
The bugs persist despite being pointed out by both users and YouTubers since the launch about two weeks ago. Given the multiple cases of missing disclaimers, it is understandable why users may feel misled by these claims.
