OpenAI plans to release a revamped version of ChatGPT in the coming weeks, one that will serve as a “super app” with coding tools and AI agents. according to the Financial Times.
The company’s goal is reportedly to become more competitive with Anthropic, especially among enterprise customers, and get closer to profitability ahead of an initial public offering. That means turning ChatGPT into a gateway that takes free users to products they could actually pay for, like the Codex coding product. In fact, the Financial Times quotes a senior OpenAI employee who declared: “Chat is dead.”
Thibault Sottiaux, who leads OpenAI’s platform and core product, said the company is working toward a product “where you have your own personal agent who is able to help you… in everything related to your life, whether personally or at work.”
If this sounds familiar, it’s because there have been reports on OpenAI’s super app ambitions since last year.
In March, The Wall Street Journal reported that these plans represent an important change in strategy for the company after launching a range of standalone products in 2025; OpenAI executives now say They are abandoning the “side quests”” as Sora video generator.
