With the beginning of the Android 17 QPR2 Beta Today, Google confirmed that the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro will reach end of life ahead of their December launch.
The Pixel 6 and 6 Pro launched in October 2021 and were originally scheduled to receive three years of Android updates followed by two years of security patches. In 2024, Google pushed devices to five full years of updates.
Regarding QPR2 Beta, Google said today that “Pixel 6 and 6Pro users will not receive this OTA as the device will reach end of life and the Android 17 QPR1 beta series will be the last for these devices.”
Android 17 QPR1 should roll out to existing Pixel devices in early September. It will presumably debut in the Pixel 11 series at the end of August.
As such, the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro will receive a few more updates: August security patch, September Pixel Drop/QPR1, and October security patch.
The Pixel 6a will continue to receive updates until July 2027.
